A North Carolina tourist out for a stroll with his dog thinks he had a close encounter with the legendary Bigfoot, and he has the video to prove it.
Proof being relative in the digital age, of course.
Eric Walters told ABC 11 that he, his wife and some friends were renting a cabin near the town of Asheville, N.C., Thursday when he decided to take his Yorkshire terrier for a morning walk.
The video starts with Walters saying “Oh my God, Oh my God,” then “No, Zippy No!” after the tiny dog gets loose from his leash and barks and runs towards a figure on the other side of the road.
Strangely, the creature is not walking on the roadway but rather through waist-tall vegetation. After being spotted, it strides away at a pretty good clip before disappearing into the woods.
Walters said he had been warned there were bear in the region. That’s what he thought he saw at first.
“I quickly realized it was not a bear but a Sasquatch,” Walters told the television station.
Walters said his brave little dog caused the creature to hurry away, saving him from a possible scary encounter.
North Carolina is no stranger to Bigfoot sightings. According to the North Carolina Bigfoot website, there have been a number of Sasquatch reports in the Tar Heel state.
A Feb. 17 post on the site states: “Witness reports observing an unknown creature from a distance of about 150 feet walking on a steep hillside near his apartment complex. He described the creature as tall with medium brown shaggy hair and moving on two legs. The witness says that the hill would be too steep for a human to traverse with such ease, and that the creature’s presence frightened his 75-pound pit bull to an extent he had never seen before. While he admits that the nighttime sighting prevented clear identification and that he could not be sure as to what he saw, he was ‘pretty sure’ it was not a human or a bear.”
Another report from June 2013 described a Sasquatch sighting like so: “It appeared tall over 7 foot and had long arms walking upright. It had long hair all over that appeared all over the body and the hair must have been 6 plus inches. It walked down a power line clearing and veered off into the woods. I was kind of in disbelief. I’m 38 years old and first time I’ve seen anything like it. “
And in March 2011, a North Carolina man shot this grainy video purporting to show a Sasquatch hurriedly crossing a road.
Walters said he’s not sure what he saw this week but he speculated that if the creature was not Bigfoot someone was playing a big joke.
